Kapwing vs VEED: Plans, Credits, Clips and API Compared
Kapwing spends one monthly pool of 1,000 credits on named AI actions, while VEED sells per-user plans in AI credits and adds a developer API.
Kapwing is the easier of the two to price: Pro is $24 a month for 1,000 credits, with published credit costs for several AI actions. VEED lists yearly prices per user, from $147, and is the one with a developer API. Both have a watermarked plan you can start at no cost. GPT-Video is a third option if clips are the whole job.
The short answer
Kapwing is the easier of the two to price. A month of Pro at $24 gets you 1,000 credits, and the pages we read price subtitles, dubbing, lip sync and text to speech in credits. VEED shows yearly prices only on the page we could read, from $147 per user per year for Creator, and it is the one with a developer API and SDKs.
Both tools have a plan you can start at no cost, and both put a watermark on it. Neither page says what a clip run costs in credits, so you cannot work out a price per clip for either. Everything here was read from public pages on 2026-10-04. Where two pages disagreed or said nothing, we say so instead of choosing a number.
Kapwing at a glance
Kapwing is a browser editor with AI tools around it: subtitles, dubbing, lip sync, text to speech and Repurpose Studio, which cuts clips out of a long video. All of them draw on one pool of credits that refills monthly.
The no-cost plan has 10 credits, 720p export, a watermark and 5 GB of storage. Its export length is the muddy part. The pricing page lists 4 minutes, while the subscription FAQ says 1 minute and describes the 10 credits as lifetime, so test it before you rely on it. Pro is $24 a month, or $16 a month billed yearly, for 1,000 credits, no watermark, 4K, 200 GB of storage and a 6 GB upload limit. Business is $64 a month, or $50 yearly, for 4,000 credits and 800 GB. Enterprise has no published price.
Credits go out per action. A minute of subtitle transcription is 1 credit, 30 seconds of dubbing is 10, a minute of lip sync is 30, and 100 characters of text to speech is 1. Paid credits reset on the first of the month whatever your billing date, and they do not roll over. Neither Pro nor Business comes with a trial, and nothing is refunded after you subscribe.
In Repurpose Studio the source must run at least 10 minutes and can reach three hours. It makes 3 to 5 clips by default in 9:16, and an Auto Speaker Focus mode holds whoever is talking in the middle of the frame. Kapwing also covers split screen, and its text message template is described as exporting like a phone recording.
VEED at a glance
VEED is another editor that runs in the browser. Its AI side covers subtitles, avatars, dubbing and Clips, a tool for long videos. The pricing difference is the unit. Plans are per user, and the text we could read shows yearly prices only.
Creator bills $147 per user across a year, so it comes to $12.25 a month ($147 divided by 12). It carries 6,000 AI credits, exports at 1080p at most, and has unlimited auto subtitles and no watermark. Pro is $265 per user per year, about $22.08 a month, with 30,000 credits, translation into more than 50 languages, multiple brand kits, up to 144 hours a year of AI voice and 4K export. Studio is $465 per user per year, about $38.75 a month, with 180,000 credits, custom templates and up to 960 hours a year of AI voice. Enterprise adds review mode, privacy controls and teams managed from one place, at a price that is not published. A monthly toggle exists, but we did not read its prices and do not quote any.
The pricing page counts plans in credits and "AI videos", not in source minutes. Credits do not roll over and expire at the end of the subscription period. The Clips tool needs a video longer than two minutes with spoken audio and re-centers the speaker. Which plan includes it, and its credit cost, we could not confirm. VEED also has a split screen editor. A fake text chat or Reddit story tool did not turn up on its pages.
Price per unit and per seat
Kapwing prices by the credit. A Pro credit costs $0.024 ($24 divided by 1,000), or $0.016 on yearly billing ($16 divided by 1,000). Subtitling a minute takes 1 credit. Dubbing a minute takes 20 credits, because 30 seconds is 10, so a dubbed minute costs about $0.48 (20 times $0.024). Pro allows up to 50 minutes of dubbing a month, and 50 minutes at 20 credits is 1,000 credits, the entire pool. Yearly billing for Pro comes to $192 ($16 times 12) against $288 paid monthly ($24 times 12), a difference of $96.
VEED prices by the seat. Five people on Creator pay $735 a year (5 times $147), and five on Pro pay $1,325 (5 times $265). Moving one seat from Creator to Pro adds $118 a year ($265 minus $147). The Kapwing pages we read state no seat count for Pro or Business, so we cannot write the same sum for it. Ask before you buy for a group.
Subtitles show how different the meters are. Kapwing Pro includes up to 1,000 minutes of auto-subtitling a month inside its $24. The same 1,000 minutes through VEED's separate Subtitles API on fal.ai, at $0.10 a minute, come to $100, although VEED's Creator plan lists unlimited auto subtitles, so that is the API price only.

Where GPT-Video fits as a third option
Full disclosure, GPT-Video is our product, so discount this section a little. It does one job, turning a long recording into vertical clips, and the wider toolbox of the two editors above is not what it sells.
It meters source minutes. At Standard a credit pays for one source minute. A Draft pass runs at 0.5 credit per minute, and a Maximum pass at 2.5. A 60-minute episode takes 60 credits at Standard, about $4.56 on Starter (60 times $0.076), or 30 credits as a Draft, about $2.28 (30 times $0.076). Starter costs $19 monthly and holds 250 credits, while Creator costs $49 and holds 800, about $0.061 a minute. Since neither rival publishes the credit cost of a clip run, we cannot set those figures beside theirs and do not claim to be cheaper.
Beyond the cut, each clip carries the reason it was picked, which means its first-seconds hook plus one decisive line from the transcript, and to change a clip you type the change into a chat with the Editor Assistant. Creator has room for a small team. More on vibe editing. An MCP connector with eight tools covers finding and exporting clips, described at MCP.
The costs of choosing it fit on one line. It will not publish or schedule posts, import from a URL or expose a public REST API. Unlike Kapwing and VEED, it has no plan that stays free month after month. A new account gets free access for 14 days instead, 50 credits without a card and while places last. After that, the paid route begins with Starter at $19 a month. To read more on either rival, see Kapwing alternatives and VEED alternatives.
Which to pick
Start with team size and code. One person who wants a single number for the month fits Kapwing, where $24 buys 1,000 credits and a subtitled minute takes one. A group billed per seat, or anyone who needs an API, is looking at VEED, using the sums above.
Then look at the source. Kapwing's Repurpose wants ten minutes or more and accepts three hours. VEED's Clips starts a little past two minutes. Neither confirms a price per clip run, so cut one video on each no-cost plan before paying, and check the watermark and the export limit while you do. Last, mind the credit clock. Kapwing's reset date does not move with your billing date, and VEED credits expire when the period ends, so buy the allowance you will actually use. Look at GPT-Video only if clips are the whole task and the exported file is where you stop, and run that same video through its free access too.
The verdict
Which one to pay for
Choose Kapwing if
- You want a month you can add up. Pro is $24 for 1,000 credits, and the credit cost of subtitles, dubbing, lip sync and text to speech is published.
- Captions in many languages are your main job. Pro covers up to 1,000 minutes of auto-subtitling a month, and Repurpose Studio lists subtitles in 100+ languages.
- Your source recordings are long. Repurpose accepts up to three hours of video, and Pro exports run up to 120 minutes in 4K.
- You make split screen or fake text message videos in the same editor, since Kapwing has a split screen tool and a text message template.
- You want failed jobs to cost nothing, because credits used on a failed processing job come back.
Choose VEED if
- You will call an API from code. VEED has its own API with Node and Go SDKs, plus a Subtitles API on fal.ai at $0.10 a minute.
- You work alone and want the lowest yearly bill. Creator is $147 per user per year, about $12.25 a month, with unlimited auto subtitles.
- Your sources are short. The Clips tool needs a video longer than two minutes, while Kapwing's Repurpose needs at least ten.
- You use AI voice heavily. Pro includes up to 144 hours a year and Studio up to 960 hours.
- Brand control matters to your team. Pro adds multiple brand kits, Studio adds custom templates and Enterprise adds centrally managed teams and review mode.
Choose GPT-Video if
- You want each clip to arrive with its reason, meaning the hook it opens on and the line that earned the pick.
- You skim a recording before committing: Draft costs half a credit per source minute, and a full Standard pass costs one.
- You prefer to ask for a change in chat and let the Editor Assistant apply it to the clip on screen, with every change undoable.
- You work inside Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and want an MCP connector built around finding and exporting clips.
- A downloaded file is the end of the job, and you will post it yourself.

Questions
Is Kapwing or VEED cheaper for a single person?
On the prices we could read, VEED. Creator is $147 per user per year, about $12.25 a month, while Kapwing Pro is $24 monthly or $16 a month billed yearly, which is $192. The two buy different things, so compare allowances before the price tag.
Which has the better no-cost plan, Kapwing or VEED?
Kapwing documents its plan in more detail: 10 credits, 720p, a watermark and 5 GB of storage, though its export length is listed as 4 minutes in one place and 1 minute in another. VEED says you can start at no cost with 720p and a watermark, and its other limits are unconfirmed.
Does Kapwing or VEED offer a REST API?
VEED does. It has a developer API with usage-based pricing and Node and Go SDKs, and a separate Subtitles API on fal.ai. Kapwing documents no REST API on the pages we read, though we cannot confirm that none exists.
Can Kapwing or VEED cut clips from a short video?
VEED's Clips tool asks for a video longer than two minutes with spoken audio. Kapwing's Repurpose Studio requires an input of at least ten minutes, so a short recording will not be accepted there. Both take long sources, and Kapwing's upper limit is three hours.
Do unused credits carry over at Kapwing and VEED?
Neither lets them roll over. Kapwing resets paid credits on the first of each month, whatever your billing date. VEED credits expire at the end of the subscription period, which means each month on monthly plans and each year on annual plans.
Do Kapwing and VEED have an MCP server for AI assistants?
Both do, for different jobs. Kapwing's connector for Claude and ChatGPT covers upload, export retrieval, subtitles, subtitle translation and dubbing, and its own pages disagree on who can use it today. VEED's MCP generates talking-avatar video rather than clips.
