Opus Clip pricing: Free, Starter and Pro explained, with the cost per source minute

Both products charge one credit per source minute, so the real question is how many credits a plan holds and what else the plan includes.

On a monthly bill GPT-Video costs less per source minute than every paid Opus Clip plan: $0.076 on Starter and $0.061 on Creator, against $0.10 and $0.097. Opus Clip pricing is a free plan with 60 credits, Starter at $15 and Pro at $29 a month, or $174 a year. Billed yearly, Pro is about $0.048 a minute, less than our Starter or Creator.

The short answer

Opus Clip and GPT-Video use the same unit: one credit for one minute of the video you bring in. That removes the usual trick of comparing a clip count against a minute count, and leaves a simpler question. How many credits does each plan hold, and what does the plan include around them?

On a monthly bill GPT-Video is cheaper per source minute at every tier. On a yearly bill Opus Clip Pro costs less per minute than our Starter and Creator plans, and only Studio goes lower. Opus Clip also has a permanent free plan and a scheduler, neither of which we have. What we give a new account is free access, a one-time 50 credits for 14 days.

New accounts also get a seven-day trial of Pro with 90 processing minutes and no card. Trial exports carry a watermark, and trial users cannot post, schedule or download in 4K.

How the credits behave

A credit is a source minute, and the rounding is worth a look. Anything shorter than a minute is charged one credit, and the leftover seconds of a longer video are dropped, so 4.5 minutes costs 4. Processing can be restricted to a stretch of the video, which spares credits when only part of a long recording matters.

The expiry rules matter more than the rounding. Credits from a monthly plan stay usable for 60 days, so a quiet month does not waste them. Yearly credits last 12 months. Sending a clip to X costs 3 credits for each X account, taken from the same allowance and refunded when the post fails or you delete it before it goes out.

One limit is worth knowing before you plan a big month. Pro comes in packs of 300 credits and the page offers a selector for more, but we could not find what an extra pack costs anywhere in the page text, so a buyer with heavy volume has to ask.

What clips cost on GPT-Video

PlanPriceCreditsPer source minute
Starter$19 a month250$0.076
Creator$49 a month800$0.061
Studio$199 a month6,000$0.033

Standard quality charges one credit per minute of source. Draft charges 0.5 and Maximum charges 2.5, which lets you try ideas cheaply and render the keepers with care. Credits stay tied to the month that issued them, and 500 extra credits cost $25. Annual billing charges ten months for twelve. The edits you request use no credits, because only source minutes are billed.

GPT-Video has no permanent free plan. Once the email on a new account is confirmed, it receives free access: 50 credits, a 14-day deadline to use them, no card, and a limited number of places. It does not renew, and buying a plan ends it.

The numbers side by side

Opus Clip Starter works out at $0.10 per source minute and Pro at $0.097 when paid monthly, so every GPT-Video tier is cheaper on a monthly basis. Opus Clip Pro billed yearly comes to about $0.048, which is lower than our Starter and Creator and sits between Creator and Studio.

So the ranking depends on how you pay and how much you clip. Monthly buyers get more minutes per dollar with GPT-Video. Yearly buyers of Opus Clip Pro get the lowest price for a moderate volume. Very heavy users with ten hours or more a month have to ask Opus Clip for a quote on extra packs, while Creator and Studio have published prices.

A month of ten hours

A creator with ten hours of footage needs 600 credits on either service, since both count one credit per source minute. On Opus Clip that is two packs of Pro at least, because one pack holds 300, and the second pack is where the missing price matters. On GPT-Video it is Creator at $49, which holds 800 credits and leaves 200 spare, so the whole month has a number you can read before you buy.

If the same footage is explored at Draft quality first, the first pass uses 300 credits and fits inside Creator with room to render the best clips again at full quality.

What the price does not show

Opus Clip includes a scheduler, an API and exports to editing software, and it can post for you. GPT-Video ends at the finished file, with no publishing. REST endpoints that Studio and Creator accounts can call and an MCP connector let a script or an assistant find and export clips. If those extras are why you would pay, the price comparison is already settled in Opus Clip's favour. The verdict

Which one to pay for

Choose Opus Clip if

  • You want a permanent free plan, which holds 60 credits a month, or a Pro trial that needs no card.
  • You pay once a year, because Pro at $174 comes to $14.50 a month and the whole year of credits arrives at purchase.
  • You want posting and scheduling inside the same product, with a social scheduler on Pro.
  • You need an API, Zapier or an export to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.

Choose GPT-Video if

  • You work with more footage than one pack covers and want a published price for it, since Creator is $49 for 800 credits.
  • You want Draft quality to cost half a credit per minute, so trying ideas is cheaper than finishing them.
  • You are happy to take the finished file and post it yourself.
  • You prefer to change a clip by writing a sentence to Editor Assistant.
