# CapCut vs VEED: App or Browser, and What Each Plan Costs

CapCut suits you if you edit on a phone or desktop and want a free tier, with Pro at $19.99 a month. VEED suits you if you work in a browser and want unlimited auto subtitles on plans from $147 a seat per year. Neither lists a per-minute rate for clipping. GPT-Video is a third pick for a fixed price per source minute.

## The short answer

Where you do the editing settles most of this choice. CapCut is a phone app, a desktop app and a web editor, sold as one subscription. VEED is a browser editor, and its paid plans are priced for each seat and for the year.

The price gap is easy to work out. CapCut Pro is $19.99 a month, so twelve months cost $239.88 (12 times $19.99). Paying yearly is $179.99, which saves $59.89 ($239.88 minus $179.99). VEED Creator is $147 a seat per year, so it comes in $32.99 under CapCut's yearly price ($179.99 minus $147). Putting the two on one scale has a catch. CapCut's own pricing page returned an error when we read it, and CapCut says prices vary by region, device and promotion. We read everything here on 2026-10-04.

## CapCut at a glance

CapCut's pitch is that one app covers general editing and short-form clipping. Its own pages describe basic editing, filters, text and captions as free. A comparison article from CapCut puts auto captions and several AI tools under Pro, so the line between free and paid is not drawn the same way everywhere.

The Pro subscription runs $19.99 on a monthly basis or $179.99 on an annual one, and its feature list covers AI tools, premium templates and effects, a stock library and collaboration features. Team starts at around $24.99 per user per month. For long recordings there is a shorts tool. One upload may reach 3 hours or 10 GB, the speaker stays centered in the vertical version, captions are added, and a one-click button posts to TikTok and YouTube. What we could not find is a per-minute or per-clip allowance for that tool, or whether it needs Pro.

## VEED at a glance

VEED works in the browser and sells most of its value as AI credits. Plans are shown by the year, per user. Creator costs $147 a year and brings 6,000 credits, clean exports, auto subtitles without a cap, and output as sharp as 1080p. Pro is $265 a year for 30,000 credits and adds multiple brand kits, translation into more than 50 languages and export up to 4K. Studio is $465 a year for 180,000 credits. Enterprise has custom credits and an unpublished price.

Unused credits are lost rather than carried forward: on annual plans they reset yearly, on monthly plans each month. VEED's Clips feature works on footage that runs past two minutes and has someone talking. Nothing we read states what a clip costs in credits. VEED also runs a developer API, a split screen editor and an MCP server, though that server makes talking-avatar video, not clips.

## Side by side

| --- | --- | --- |
| Where you edit | Phone, desktop and web | Browser |

| Auto captions | More than 20 languages | Unlimited on Creator, translation on Pro |
| Long video to clips | One upload up to 3 hours or 10 GB | Clips tool, video over two minutes with speech |
| Split screen | Not found on pages read | Dedicated editor |
| Posting | One-click to TikTok and YouTube | Download, edit or share; scheduling not found |

| Top export quality | Not stated on pages read | 1080p on Creator, 4K from Pro |

## What three seats cost

Suppose three people share the work. CapCut Team starts at around $24.99 per user per month, so three seats are $74.97 a month (3 times $24.99). VEED Creator at $12.25 a seat is $36.75 a month when billed yearly (3 times $12.25), which is $441 a year (3 times $147). The two are not like for like. CapCut's Team plan lists a shared workspace, the pages we read do not describe one for VEED Creator, and managed teams sit on a VEED plan with no published price. VEED's monthly prices were not readable, and CapCut did not say whether Team has a yearly discount.

For one person who needs 4K, the gap closes: VEED Pro at $265 a year is $85.01 above CapCut Pro billed yearly ($265 minus $179.99).

## Where GPT-Video fits as a third option

A disclosure first: this site is GPT-Video's own. The product has a single job, cutting a long recording into vertical clips, and it is not a general editor in the way CapCut and VEED are.

The meter counts source minutes. A source minute costs 1 credit in Standard, 0.5 credit in Draft and 2.5 credits in Maximum. A 3-hour recording, the largest upload CapCut's shorts tool accepts, is 180 credits. On Starter that is about $13.68 (180 times $0.076, which is $19 divided by 250 credits), and a Draft pass is 90 credits, about $6.84. We cannot make the same sum for CapCut or VEED, because neither page states a per-minute allowance for clipping. Beside each clip GPT-Video states its first line and the sentence that justified keeping it. Changes are requested by typing them to the Editor Assistant, which applies them to the clip on screen. See [vibe editing](/vibe-editing).

Here is what you give up. GPT-Video does not publish or schedule, cannot import from a link, so the recording goes in as a file. GPT-Video also offers REST endpoints that opens with Creator. Unlike CapCut and VEED, it has no tier you can stay on at no cost. New accounts are given free access when they confirm their email, and it carries 50 credits (close to 50 minutes at Standard) for 14 days, no card required. Places are limited, nothing renews afterwards, and the first paid plan is Starter at $19 a month. There is an MCP connector, and the [pricing page](/pricing) lists every plan. For a closer look at each rival, read the pages on [CapCut alternatives](/alternatives/capcut) and [VEED alternatives](/alternatives/veed).

## Which to pick

Begin with the device. If you cut on a phone, CapCut is the only one of the two whose listed versions include mobile. If your whole day is in a browser, VEED needs no install.

Then look at what the clip needs. Heavy subtitle work, translation or a split screen layout points to VEED. A recording of up to 3 hours that should go to TikTok or YouTube in one step points to CapCut. If a developer on your side will wire the editor into something else, only VEED lists an API. Check the [AI captions](/features/ai-captions) page if captions are the main job, and choose GPT-Video only when the work is clipping long recordings and a file is where you stop.

## Choose CapCut if

- You edit on a phone as well as a computer. The same editor runs on mobile, desktop and web, so a rough cut made on the train can be finished at a desk.
- You want to start without paying. CapCut describes basic editing, filters, text and captions as free, though some of its pages place auto captions under Pro.
- You like one flat price. Pro is $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year, with no credit meter on the pages we read.
- Your long recordings run up to 3 hours or 10 GB. The long video to shorts tool takes one upload of that size and can post to TikTok and YouTube in one click.
- You want captions in many languages. Auto captions are listed in more than 20.

## Choose VEED if

- You would rather keep everything in a browser tab and install nothing.
- You caption a lot. Creator includes unlimited auto subtitles and removes the watermark, and Pro adds translation into more than 50 languages.
- Your edits need a split screen layout. VEED has a dedicated split screen editor.
- You build on top of an editor. VEED has a developer API with Node and Go SDKs and a Subtitles API billed per minute, plus an MCP server for talking-avatar video.
- You prefer a lower yearly entry price. Creator is $147 a seat, which is $32.99 below CapCut Pro billed yearly.

## Choose GPT-Video if

- You want the price of a clipping job to be a known number of credits, one credit per minute of source video in Standard.
- You want to see why each clip was chosen, with the hook it opens on and the line that earned it.
- You would rather say what to change in chat and let the Editor Assistant apply it, with every change undoable.
- You run your clipping from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor through the MCP connector and its eight tools.
- You are fine with exporting a file and posting it yourself.
