# GPT-Video vs AutoShorts: footage you bring, or videos it writes and posts

GPT-Video wins when you already have long footage. Any plan can be topped up with 500 credits for $25, and the preview runs the export's own code, so you can play a clip before you accept it. AutoShorts wins when you want faceless videos written and posted for you, with auto-posting to TikTok, YouTube and Instagram.

## The short answer

AutoShorts and GPT-Video start from opposite ends. AutoShorts makes the video: you pick a niche or write a prompt, and a Series produces new faceless videos and posts them. GPT-Video starts with a recording of yours and cuts clips out of it. If you have no footage, that alone decides it, and AutoShorts is the one to look at.

If you do have footage, two things work in our favor. Any plan can be topped up with 500 credits for $25 when a month runs long. And the clip preview runs on the export's own rendering code, so captions and timing look on screen the way the file will have them. The face-following crop is worked out after you accept a clip, so the preview does not show that final crop.

## Where GPT-Video is stronger

**A top-up that does not need a new plan.** Credits on GPT-Video are minutes of source video. When a month brings more recordings than the plan holds, you buy 500 credits for $25 and carry on. That is $0.05 a credit, less than the per-minute rate of any plan below Studio. AutoShorts sells top-off credits as well, but its plans are metered by posting frequency and motion credits, a different unit for a different job.

**A preview built from the export code.** The clip you check in the browser runs on the same code that later renders the file, so a caption you see in the right spot stays in that spot in the file. You review first and spend the finishing credit second. AutoShorts says you can preview an upcoming video and edit its script, title and music. Whether that preview shares code with the final render is not described on its pages.

**Clips with reasons.** Beside each pick you get the opening hook and the line that won it a place. Changes are typed to Editor Assistant as plain sentences, and each one can be undone. See [vibe editing](/vibe-editing).

## Where AutoShorts is stronger

- **Posting.** A Series publishes on its own schedule, and you do nothing after setup.
- **No footage needed.** It writes and voices the video, with 30 languages available.
- **Plan features.** Voice cloning, HD, background music and no watermark are on every plan, including the $19 one.
- **Editing before it goes out.** You can read the upcoming video and change its script, title or music.
- **One-click cancel and plan changes.** You can move up or down at any time, though its FAQ says refunds are waived at sign-up.

## What we cannot compare yet

Its public pages leave several questions open, so we leave them open too. We do not know whether it can clip a long source video, split a screen or build fake text videos, because the pages read do not describe them. We have no yearly prices: the toggle says two months free, but no amounts were readable. We cannot say whether it offers a public API or an MCP connector, how it frames faces, or what its Minecraft and GTA styles produce. Check these on its site before you decide, and we will update this page when they are confirmed.

## What a real month costs

Picture a podcaster with 12 hours of recordings in a heavy month, which is 720 credits at Standard. Starter holds 250. One top-up lifts the total to 750 credits for $19 plus $25, which is $44. Creator holds 800 credits for $49, so the Starter-and-top-up route costs $5 less and gives 50 fewer credits. Creator also brings 4K export and room for a small team, so choose it if you need those.

With annual billing, Starter is 10 months paid for 12, which is $190 a year.

On AutoShorts, one Series that posts daily is the Daily plan at $39 a month. We do not set the two side by side as a cost per clip, because one is a price for finished videos on a schedule and the other is a price for source minutes you upload.

## What you give up by moving

You give up auto-posting, scheduling, voice cloning (not on our feature list) and the option to generate a video from nothing. Nothing in GPT-Video posts for you or pulls a video from a URL, so your recording arrives as an uploaded file and the finished clip is yours to publish.

You get clips cut from your own recordings, a top-up when a month runs long, and a preview built from the export code. To test it, open an account and confirm your email. If a place is still open, the account is credited with 50 credits that expire 14 days later, and no card is needed. Send in a single long recording and compare the preview with the exported file. Every plan and the top-up appear on the [pricing page](/pricing), and the [faceless channels](/use-cases/faceless-channels) page covers the other kind of work.

## Choose AutoShorts if

- You want videos posted for you. A Series publishes to connected TikTok, YouTube and Instagram accounts on the schedule you set.
- You have no footage. It writes, voices and captions new videos from a niche or your own prompt.
- You want every plan to include voice cloning and no watermark, at the same $19 entry price as ours.
- You publish in other languages. It lists 30 for generated videos.

## Choose GPT-Video if

- You have long recordings and want clips cut from them. AutoShorts pages do not describe that job.
- Some months are heavy, and you want to buy 500 more credits for $25 without changing plan.
- You want to watch a clip in a preview that shares the export's code before you export it.
- You want to read why each clip was picked and change it by describing the change.

## Questions

### Is GPT-Video a good AutoShorts alternative?

It is a good alternative if you have your own long recordings and want clips cut from them. It is a poor one if you want a tool that invents faceless videos and posts them on a schedule, which is what AutoShorts is built to do.

### Does GPT-Video post to TikTok, YouTube or Instagram like AutoShorts?

No. GPT-Video stops at the exported file, on every plan, and never connects to your social accounts. You post the file yourself or hand it to the scheduler you already use. AutoShorts auto-posts to all three platforms.

### How does the GPT-Video top-up work?

You buy 500 extra credits for $25 on top of your plan. One credit is one minute of source video in Standard quality, so a top-up works out to $0.05 a credit. AutoShorts sells top-off credits too, but its plans are metered by posting frequency and motion credits, not by source minutes.

### Can I test either tool before paying?

GPT-Video can be tested. A new account that confirms its email gets free access with 50 credits for 14 days and no card, while places last. It is a one-time start, and there is no permanent plan. AutoShorts lists a no-cost plan but marks it paused, and its FAQ says it was suspended because of botting and spam.

### Can GPT-Video make Reddit story videos like AutoShorts?

GPT-Video has a Reddit story video maker with its own page. AutoShorts lists Reddit-style stories as one starting niche for a Series. How the two compare on voices, visuals and cost per video is something we could not confirm.
